Walk & Talk Therapy
Some conversations are easier side by side.
Schedule a Free ConsultationFor thousands of years, men have walked side by side while they hunted, worked, or moved camp.
We’ve lost some of that.
Walk & Talk Therapy is exactly what it sounds like. We meet along the James River and do therapy while we walk the trails.
Why It Works
A lot of men just open up easier shoulder to shoulder while they’re moving. One client described it as “therapy that doesn’t feel like therapy.” That’s a big part of why it works.
It combines movement, sunlight, nature, and therapy, all rolled into one.
You do not have to be outdoorsy or particularly fit. This is not exercise. We are not training for anything. We are taking a walk and doing therapy.
What to Expect
- We meet in the parking lot and head out on the trail
- Parke meets clients at Robious Landing. Daniel and Devin meet clients at Pony Pasture
- Most sessions are about a two-mile walk, and we go at whatever pace works for you
- We walk, talk, and work on whatever brought you in
- If the weather gets in the way, we switch to virtual for that session
“Going on walks and talking through the everyday struggles of being a guy, a husband, a father, and a human being has been incredibly helpful.”Brian — Small Business Owner
Common Questions
What are the benefits of walk-and-talk therapy?
Movement, fresh air, and side-by-side conversation make the work feel more natural than sitting across from someone in an office or staring at a screen. The goal isn’t to make therapy feel like exercise. It’s a setting where you can talk honestly, think clearly, and stay engaged.
What if it’s hot, cold, or raining?
We walk in most normal weather, including light rain and typical Richmond heat. If conditions are unsafe or genuinely unpleasant, we shift that session to telehealth or phone. You never lose the session because of weather.
Is the trail private enough to talk openly?
Yes, though it’s still a public trail, so we’re thoughtful about route, pace, and volume. The trails usually give us plenty of space to talk openly. If privacy is ever a concern on a given day, we adjust the route or shift to telehealth.
What if I’m not in great shape?
The walks are not workouts. We move at whatever pace is comfortable, and the route can be shortened. If walking isn’t a good fit on a given day, we use telehealth or phone instead.
What should I bring?
Walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothes, and water if you want it. The first session covers what any first therapy session would: what brings you in and where we might start. The only difference is we’re doing it outside.
